Risto was born in Algiers in 1955. He lives and works in Aix-en-Provence. He was a pioneer of video art in the early 80s. He worked for a while with the Cahiers du cinéma journal and then concentrated on illustrations whilst in parallel working on multimedia projects. Since the Fine Arts school he went to in the 70s, his graphic technique is faithful to a punk attitude: reuse of photographs, post WWII American comics, orientalism, inclusion of texts in his drawings, tags, collages, use of offset grids, radical caesuras, violent black and white... Risto's drawings either come from a shock or suggest a clash. After having designed several books of Franco-Japanese drawings published in very limited numbers (they are online on his website) Notes on Sumo is his very first comic strip. His recent works are visible here.
